  • Sunday School on Zoom (Sunday April 19th): April 19th at 9 am, Curt Poore will be leading Sunday school over Zoom. We will provide links and everything you need to know when we get closer to the date.
  • MH Church Family Teams: In the last week, you should have received an email from Pastor Aaron stating that you are on a Family Team. These teams were designed to help us stay in touch with one another, and make sure every one is up to date on information through this time.

    Firstly, I just want to say how thankful we are for your patience as we figure this stuff out. It can be very frustrating to have a sudden shift in routine, so we appreciate every ounce of patience you have provided (especially through a side-way stream lol!)

    We realize not everyone has Facebook, so this week, we will be strictly streaming from our YouTube page (Mercy Hill Church Youtube Page). We will still post the link to our Facebook Page, but please forward this link (mhchurch.org/news) to anyone you can so they can stay in the loop.

    We will also be posting the order of service tomorrow with lyrics so you can follow/sing along at home- so please check back here or on the app for updates!
    • Ways to Give from Home:
      We as God’s people and the church, especially through this time, have a responsibility to give – for our missionaries, our leaders, and our church. Giving is also another way we worship God through obedience.

      There are several ways to give right now:

      1.) Mail in a check to the church

      3.) Give through the app
      Go to “Donate” in the MH Church App and follow the instructions

  • Masks Needed for St. Francis Employees: To all of our sewers out there with nothing to do- remember how last week we talked about sharing the gospel from home? Well, St. Francis Hospital is needing masks for their employees. They have provided a pattern here: Mask Pattern
    The fabric does not matter, just please remember that both men and women will be wearing these. What an awesome opportunity to share the gospel with someone! What if we attached encouraging, grace-filled Bible verses to each mask we made? How life-altering would that be? *must be white and/or beige*

    Shelby Kate- Campus Outreach:
    Shelby Kate McCord recently shared about her new job opportunity working for Campus Outreach. She shared how we as a church and individually can help support her both prayerfully and financially. She currently needs $1782 in monthly support. If 18 people were willing to give $100/month then her goal would be reached! Pray and consider if God would lead you to this amount or another according to your financial ability!

    Mercy Hill Church has prayerfully committed to supporting her $200/month out of the church budget. We are also prayerfully encouraging 32 individual members to commit to $25/month (or some other amount) to help raise up an additional $800/month for a total of $1,000 to be raised up from Mercy Hill Church.

  • CarePortal, through director Shelly Girard, connects children and families served by the Division of Family Services directly to participating churches in our area. Through the generosity of our local churches, our area is one of the most impactful in the nation. If you would like to contribute to these families, just respond to the CarePortal requests that are emailed periodically or let Teri Burke know. 573-275-4767

    Hope for One More places children into foster care when they are removed from their own homes. Paul and Patricia Aydelott work on counseling and reunification with the parents as a first option. If you would like to become involved in helping with foster care, please call Crissy Mayberry (573-979-5774) or you can talk to Teri. This doesn’t necessarily mean becoming a foster parent-there are so many ways to serve!

 


ONGOING ACTIVITIES

  • Kids’ TRIBE: Kids’ TRIBE is worship for kids from kindergarten through fourth grade; it takes place during the Sunday morning worship hour. We also offer extended session (ages 3-5) and a nursery (infants-2) during the worship service.

 

  • Wednesday Activities: Choir at 9:30 am and Bible Study at 10:30 am

 

  • Women on Mission: Women on Mission will meet every 3rd Tuesday of the month at 9:30 a.m. at Mercy Hill Church.

 

  • JUL’s: On the 1st Thursday of every month JUL’s will meet for lunch.

Worshiping at Home

Hey Mercy Hill Family!

Let me start this off by saying we miss seeing your bright faces every Sunday. I eagerly await the day we get to praise the Lord together in person again. I have been reading through Philippians, and in chapter 1 Paul talks about how the feeling of absence in community is important because it causes the rejoicing when we reunite to be that much sweeter (Philippians 1:24-26). I pray that it provides some hope and encouragement.

So, how can we live a worship filled life from home? Let me start with defining what worship is. Worship is just living out the gospel. That’s it! Every time we live out the gospel, we are glorifying God- which in turn is worshiping Him! In Mike Cosper’s Rhythms of Grace, he describes that worship can seem like an endless list of duties: going to church, singing praises, reading the Scriptures, etc… but when it’s seen through that lense, it easily becomes just a list of things to check off. More so, a list of things to check off to earn God’s favor. Meaning when we miss something on the checklist, we begin to doubt our standing with God. But here’s the good news: worship doesn’t have to be that complicated. We don’t need to try harder, we just need to shift our focus. Worship isn’t about what we do, it’s about recognizing who God is.

So how can we live worship filled lives at home?

1.) Pray

This seems like a no-brainer, but hear me out! When I think of worship in the Scriptures, I immediately think of David in the Psalms. And honestly, the Psalms are founded on prayer. Each Psalm is saturated in David’s honesty, his praise for the Lord, his faith, his frustration, his joy- and in each and every one, God was still glorified. Truthfully, worship songs are just prayers wrapped in a melody. So, pray with honesty. I’m reminded of Romans 12:12, especially in this time: Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.

2.) Read the Word

The Word of God is alive and active (Heb. 4:12). God gave us his Word for a reason. It’s not there to just be another check off the list. It’s living and breathing, providing hope, quenching spiritual thirst, and renewing our minds to be more like Jesus. As Pastor Aaron said in his training video this week, you don’t need to be a theologian to read the Bible. You have the Spirit of God within you, helping you understand all that’s needed. Read the Word with your families, teach the Gospel story to your young ones, and don’t just be hearers of the Word, but doers of the Word (James 1:22-25).

3.) Rejoice

There is good news, even if it’s not readily on our TV screens. Jesus is risen, and He has defeated death and sin! This means literally anyone can experience the hope and mercy that is in Christ Jesus- which is a powerful thing! Jesus is the ultimate worship leader. He is the reason we sing, we praise, and can experience joy. I love how in “His Eyes Are on the Sparrow” we sing: I sing because I’m happy, I sing because I’m free…
Only Jesus can provide such a freeing joy. And only through prayer and reading His Word can we be constantly reminded of His boundless grace. So after you read the Bible, sing your favorite worship song or hymn. Or play your favorite on Spotify/YouTube. Tell a loved one about your favorite hymn/song and why it’s your favorite. Thank God for His Word and Jesus for living it out for us.

I pray that this encourages you, and that you find freedom through this new lense of worship. I hope that you sing because of the freedom Jesus has given us (no matter what you may sound like (; )
