COVID-19 Update

Dear Mercy Hill Church Family,
What a whirlwind these last 2 weeks have been! Admittedly, I did not think a global pandemic would be on the list of things we’d encounter in the first month together. But here we are!

As you know, the leadership team and staff of Mercy Hill are doing everything we can to monitor the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation in order to make wise decisions, physically care for the people of our church and community, and provide for their spiritual needs. Below is our current plan to move forward.

Recent Announcement
As the coronavirus continues to spread, state and local governments are shutting down schools and businesses and limiting the size of public gatherings to 10 people. President Trump announced, “We’d much rather be ahead of the curve than behind it. Therefore, my administration is recommending that all Americans, including the young and healthy, avoid gathering in groups of more than 10 people, avoid discretionary travel and avoid eating and drinking at bars, restaurants and public food courts.”

Recommended Goals
We very much appreciate our governing authorities and want to encourage you to be faithfully praying for them. These are not easy decisions to make; but in response, we want to remind you of our goals as believers and update you on the necessary changes to our schedule. Here’s a reminder of our goals:
  1. We want to walk by faith and not in fear.
  2. We want to make wise decisions by having all the latest information.
  3. We want to listen to health experts and joyfully submit to our governing authorities.
  4. We want to love the people in our congregation and community by prioritizing both their physical health and spiritual well-being.
  5. We want to be respectful of different points of view and different comfort levels.

Upcoming Schedule
In response to President Trump’s recommendation, we are modifying, postponing, or canceling all public services that take place at Mercy Hill Church. This includes our Sunday morning service, Sunday school, choir practice, Bible study, and any other scheduled event. Our plan is to host some events on an online platform as we are able. When that happens we will send out information via the app, facebook page, and our website.

We also plan to put together ministry teams, partnering families with Sr. Adults in our congregations. The goal of these teams is to look out for one another- make phone calls, help with grocery runs, and if possible to watch the live stream of worship services together. We are a family, and need to stay connected as much as possible in the coming weeks when it will be easy to feel isolated. So, please take advantage of the opportunities to interact with one another. More details to come!

Sunday Morning Service
In willing submission to our governing authorities’ recommendations, we are temporarily canceling our traditional Sunday morning gathering. Certainly, this is helpful to minimize the spread of the coronavirus. But the leadership team also values the gathering of the saints and all fo the benefits of worshiping as a congregation. Therefore, we will provide our normal service through Live Stream at 10:00AM with some minor modifications including: a more intimate worship service, a time of prayer which includes requests submitted in advance by email (submit requests to mercyhilloffice@gmail.com), a sermon from Matthew 28:16-20 on the mission of the church, and a closing song and benediction. Again, the goal is to joyfully submit to our governing authorities, protect everyone’s individual physical health, and yet spiritually encourage our congregation in the gospel!

We hope and pray this information is helpful. We are doing the very best we can to make wise decisions and provide helpful options. We are also praying for God’s richest blessings on you and your family!

Christ is All,
Pastor Aaron (On behalf of the Leadership Team)

Regarding Concerns Over COVID-19

Dear Mercy Hill Church Family,

As all of us are tracking the story concerning the Coronavirus, the leadership team and I have discussed the best approach for the church and how we can best love our neighbors. As of now, church services will continue to be hosted. However, for many within our congregation the best way to participate in those services may be through our Facebook Live or Youtube broadcasts. This is especially true for those in the age groups that have been most negatively impacted by this virus, individuals who are 60 and older. Also, any individual, regardless of age, with underlying health issues should consider staying away from all public spaces, including church.

If you decide to attend any service in person, please take all the proper precautions: wash your hands carefully, use the hand sanitizer in the lobby, and avoid direct physical contact with others. Smile and wave. Avoid handshakes and hugs. We will also suspend the passing of offering plates. Instead, there are drop boxes in the back of the sanctuary that you can use for offerings. Online giving is also easily found on our website, www.mhchurch.org.

In summary, our services will continue as usual. However, avoid physical contact while at church, and we will have no passing of plates during the services. If you are particularly at risk for coronavirus or just desire to be cautious with this potential threat, then stay away from public gatherings, including worship services and watch the services via Facebook Live or Youtube. This is a rapidly changing situation that may require quick adjustments to these plans. Check our website, Facebook, and watch the app for updates.

Thankful to be your pastor,

Aaron
