Remember to check mhchurch.org/news for updates in 2020

Upcoming Events:

  • All the info for Sunday Service: https://www.mhchurch.org/covid-19-update/
Firstly, I just want to say how thankful we are for your patience as we figure this stuff out. It can be very frustrating to have a sudden shift in routine, so we appreciate every ounce of patience you have provided (especially through a side-way stream lol!)

We realize not everyone has Facebook, so this week, we will be strictly streaming from our YouTube page (Mercy Hill Church Youtube Page). We will still post the link to our Facebook Page, but please forward this link (mhchurch.org/news) to anyone you can so they can stay in the loop.

Lastly, this Sunday’s theme is all about worship. Pastor Aaron has kindly provided his sermon notes so that you can follow along at home (and dive deeper into discussion with family and loved ones!). Click here for the sermon notes. We will also be posting the order of service tomorrow with lyrics so you can follow/sing along at home- so please check back here or on the app for updates!

    • Ways to Give from Home:
We as God’s people and the church, especially through this time, have a responsibility to give – for our missionaries, our leaders, and our church. Giving is also another way we worship God through obedience.

There are several ways to give right now:

1.) Mail in a check to the church
      3757 MO-25
      Jackson, MO 63755

      2.) Give through our website.
      Go to mhchurch.org/give

      3.) Give through the app
Go to “Donate” in the MH Church App and follow the instructions

4.) Go to your bank and set your tithe as a “Bill Pay”
      Call you bank for instructions.

  • Children’s Discipleship Take Home Kits: Children’s Discipleship “Take Home” Activities are packed and ready to go! Pick up in the church lobby at the following times to help your child continue learning about God at home!

    Wednesday 3/25: 1-4 pm
    Thursday 3/26: 10 am – 2 pm
    Saturday 3/28: by appointment only

  • Masks Needed for St. Francis Employees: To all of our sewers out there with nothing to do- remember how last week we talked about sharing the gospel from home? Well, St. Francis Hospital is needing masks for their employees. They have provided a pattern here: Mask Pattern
The fabric does not matter, just please remember that both men and women will be wearing these. What an awesome opportunity to share the gospel with someone! What if we attached encouraging, grace-filled Bible verses to each mask we made? How life-altering would that be?

If you have any questions, please contact Nancy Ayres (mana61@gmail.com) or Kayla Dowdy (mercyhilloffice@gmail.com).

  • 2020 Member Directory: We will be updating our directory to better serve you. In order to do this, we ask that you please fill out this form so that we can update your information, add you into our system, and keep you in the loop with updates! Mercy Hill Connect Form

Important Updates:

  • Shelby Kate and Campus Outreach:

    Shelby Kate- Campus Outreach:
Shelby Kate McCord recently shared about her new job opportunity working for Campus Outreach. She shared how we as a church and individually can help support her both prayerfully and financially. She currently needs $1782 in monthly support. If 18 people were willing to give $100/month then her goal would be reached! Pray and consider if God would lead you to this amount or another according to your financial ability!

Mercy Hill Church has prayerfully committed to supporting her $200/month out of the church budget. We are also prayerfully encouraging 32 individual members to commit to $25/month (or some other amount) to help raise up an additional $800/month for a total of $1,000 to be raised up from Mercy Hill Church.

Here is her video, link for prayer updates, as well as her giving link.

A Word to the Women of Mercy Hill

A few words of encouragement from Becky Campbell:

Hey ladies!

I wanted to reach out to the ladies at Mercy Hill Church as well as follow up with you since the last JUL’s meeting. (If you weren’t there, the ladies ‘reverse roasted’ me and made me feel so loved!) I also spoke about trees in the Bible, specifically Psalm 1.

Are you watching the trees bloom right in front of you? Spring has sprung!!! What trees are blooming near you? What colors are bursting forth? Are you listening to the birds? They wake me every morn praising their Maker. I’d love to see pics of your trees so that we can enjoy them together. Also, are dogwoods blooming yet? When they do, please show me! My email is thecampbellfour@gmail.com.

During these uncertain days what else are you watching? The local news, facebook, or the Internet?  If so, let me encourage you (us!)- before you open your eyes from sleep, pray.

Daily Habits of Grace

  1. Pray for a great day to grow in Him, get work done and live for His glory. Rest in Him, give it to Him and leave your burdens there.
  2. Read the Word. Before you touch your phone to check emails, texts, or the news, lean into His word and meditate on it.

If you don’t know what to read, I recommend you read a Psalm and a Proverb with the # of the day (Read Proverbs 3 on the third day of the month, etc…). Or read a Pauline letter and ask God to speak to you and wait until He does. Then pray. Please pray in light of God’s word for our towns, your pastor, your church, the country and our world. Pray for neighbors near who may need help and reach out you and let them know that you prayed for them. It matters! Also, real mail is still FUN and now so more than ever.

  1. Make something with your hands. Work with your hands, make good food, crochet, knit, garden or scrapbook. I’ve picked up embroidery that been sitting for a long time. As spring springs up around us, let’s ignite spring in our soul to create and bless others with the beauty of it.
  2. Be active. Enjoy the day and get outside. Vitamin D is our friend at this time. After our daily walk, I always feel better.

Questions and Encouragement

How are you being fed spiritually, mentally, physically and emotionally? Is this a time of lack or trust for you soul? Let’s read, savor, and soak in His word on a daily basis before we look at other things. Instead, look to the Author and Finisher of our faith. God is good and in control. Let’s trust Him together.

Lord, help us to be like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in season and its leaf does not wither but whatever she does prospers because the Law she meditates day and night.  Help us in this time to be life givers in our words and actions not like a dried up withered plant. Be near to us Jesus. Amen

You are loved! How I can’t wait to hug each one of you!

Psalm 37: 3-5

Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness. Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.  Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him and He will do it.

PS Here’s a picture of something I’m working on right now. Feel free to send me a picture of your current project to help pass the time.

General Thoughts and Frequently Asked Questions

Dear Mercy Hill Family,

I hope and pray you are well and weathering all that is happening around us in this moment! It is unexpected, and unprecedented in our generation, but we can remain confident in both the goodness and sovereignty of God. Things are changing on a daily basis, but He is constant. In light of the most recent information we have decided to LIVE STREAM our service in the morning on our Facebook page. I light of that, I had a few thoughts and wanted to respond to a few questions I’ve received.

General Thoughts
I don’t think there is anything wrong with expressing sadness that we have to endure this right now. We weren’t made for isolation and social distancing. We were made for community. Not only that, the church as a family is God’s idea (Ephesians 3:10-12). Gathering together for worship is part of who we are as God’s people. So, despite the recommendations of authorities and health officials, who are making great decisions that we want to honor, I’m sad that we can’t be together for worship. That being said, as you watch the LIVE STREAM, keep in mind that you aren’t do so alone, but are gathering with our Mercy Hill family around God’s Word in the power of His Spirit.

            A few other thoughts:

  1. Find ways to connect with one another that still honor the social distancing guidelines we’ve been given. Make us of technology- Zoom, Skype, FaceTime, or some other video chat is a good way to connect. Write a letter. My kids have already heard from their Sunday School teacher, and were so encouraged by it. Or just use a phone to make a phone call. We have plenty of ways to still enjoy a cup of coffee, read the Word, and encourage one another.
  2. I would encourage you to prioritize time in God’s Word and prayer. I have found that we’re all prone to struggle when we keep our eyes glued to the news, scrolling through social media posts, and tracking the latest trends., usually to the detriment of time in the Word and prayer. Work hard to guard your heart! If you are particularly struggling, reach out to someone and ask for prayer or encouragement. It’s helpful to talk to someone.
  3. Make sure you are being light to your friends and neighbors around you. Everything we’ve said about community is true of every single person around you. Let your neighbors know about the LIVE STREAM. Part of living on mission means during these difficult days that we invite others to the hope we have in Christ!

Frequently Asked Questions

Here is a list of questions I’ve heard or thought of over the last few days.

  1. How do we access the LIVE STREAM?

The easiest way is to go to www.facebook.com/mercyhillchurchjackson. Scroll down the page and you should see the livestream. Click on it and you’ll be able to maximize it on your device. If the stream is sluggish or not working you can always go to www.Youtube.com and search for Mercy Hill Jackson and watch the sermon after the service there. If you need help walking through the process, please let us know!

  1. Can we get lyrics to the songs ahead of time?

Yes! Kayla sent out a post through the Mercy Hill App that included all the lyrics. You can view it through the app in the newsletter section. It is called, “Worship and Order of Service.”

  1. How should we handle our giving?

My first response is to encourage you to continue giving or start giving. These are difficult times, but one of the ways we can walk by faith and not in fear is to faithfully give. Not only that, there are people and projects that depend on our faithfulness in giving. We have missionaries, ministries, and people in our congregation that rely on our faithfulness and generosity. Not only that, I’m sure that in the coming weeks we will have more people in need that could require our assistance. So, here are the ways you can give:

  • Bill Pay– Most banks have online banking options that enable you to send out physical checks, either one-time or on a regularly scheduled basis. We encourage this strategy because it provides regularly scheduled giving which matches our regularly scheduled needs as a church. It also prevents additional costs because there is no overhead fee. It doesn’t even cost you the price of a stamp. That’s helpful!
  • Send a Check– You can also send in a personal check to the church. Our address is: 3757 Mo-25, Jackson, MO 63755.
  • Online Giving– we also have Online Giving available on our website. This provides complete flexibility for you to give any time, either as a one-time gift or on a regular basis. There is a fee that is subtracted from the gift (usually around 3%), but the majority still goes to the church.

  1. How can I contact Pastor Aaron?

You can find Aaron at the church Monday-Thursday during the day. Otherwise, here is his contact info:

Closing Prayer

I hope and pray that all this information is helpful. Know that you are loved and are being regularly prayed for. Psalm 146 is so helpful as it reminds us, “That God is a refuge and strength, a very present help in times of trouble. SO be still, an dknow that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress” (Psalm 146:1, 10-11). God is at work for our good and His glory! Take heart!

Thankful to be your pastor,

Aaron

Call to Worship – Pastor Aaron

Romans 4:11 – “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue confess to God.”

May the Peoples Praise You

You have called us out of darkest night
Into Your glorious light
That we may sing the wonders of
The risen Christ

May our every breath retell the grace
That broke into our strife
With boundless love and deepest joy
With endless life

May the peoples praise You
Let the nations be glad
All Your blessing comes
That we may praise
May praise the Name of Jesus

All the earth is Yours and all within
Each harvest is Your own
And from Your hand we give to You
To make Christ known

May the seeds of mercy grow in us
For those who have not heard
May songs of praise build lives of grace
To spread Your Word

May the peoples praise You
Let the nations be glad
All Your blessing comes
That we may praise
May praise the Name of Jesus

This our holy privilege to declare
Your praises and Your name
To every nation, tribe and tongue
Your church proclaims

May the peoples praise You
Let the nations be glad
All Your blessing comes
That we may praise
May praise the Name of Jesus

Holy, holy is the Lord Almighty
Worthy, worthy is the Lamb Who was slain
Holy, holy is the Lord Almighty
All creation praise Your glorious Name

May the peoples praise You
Let the nations be glad
All Your blessing comes
That we may praise
May praise the Name of Jesus

May the peoples praise You
Let the nations be glad
All Your blessing comes
That we may praise
May praise the Name of Jesus

COVID-19 Update

Dear Mercy Hill Church Family,
What a whirlwind these last 2 weeks have been! Admittedly, I did not think a global pandemic would be on the list of things we’d encounter in the first month together. But here we are!

As you know, the leadership team and staff of Mercy Hill are doing everything we can to monitor the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation in order to make wise decisions, physically care for the people of our church and community, and provide for their spiritual needs. Below is our current plan to move forward.

Recent Announcement
As the coronavirus continues to spread, state and local governments are shutting down schools and businesses and limiting the size of public gatherings to 10 people. President Trump announced, “We’d much rather be ahead of the curve than behind it. Therefore, my administration is recommending that all Americans, including the young and healthy, avoid gathering in groups of more than 10 people, avoid discretionary travel and avoid eating and drinking at bars, restaurants and public food courts.”

Recommended Goals
We very much appreciate our governing authorities and want to encourage you to be faithfully praying for them. These are not easy decisions to make; but in response, we want to remind you of our goals as believers and update you on the necessary changes to our schedule. Here’s a reminder of our goals:
  1. We want to walk by faith and not in fear.
  2. We want to make wise decisions by having all the latest information.
  3. We want to listen to health experts and joyfully submit to our governing authorities.
  4. We want to love the people in our congregation and community by prioritizing both their physical health and spiritual well-being.
  5. We want to be respectful of different points of view and different comfort levels.

Upcoming Schedule
In response to President Trump’s recommendation, we are modifying, postponing, or canceling all public services that take place at Mercy Hill Church. This includes our Sunday morning service, Sunday school, choir practice, Bible study, and any other scheduled event. Our plan is to host some events on an online platform as we are able. When that happens we will send out information via the app, facebook page, and our website.

We also plan to put together ministry teams, partnering families with Sr. Adults in our congregations. The goal of these teams is to look out for one another- make phone calls, help with grocery runs, and if possible to watch the live stream of worship services together. We are a family, and need to stay connected as much as possible in the coming weeks when it will be easy to feel isolated. So, please take advantage of the opportunities to interact with one another. More details to come!

Sunday Morning Service
In willing submission to our governing authorities’ recommendations, we are temporarily canceling our traditional Sunday morning gathering. Certainly, this is helpful to minimize the spread of the coronavirus. But the leadership team also values the gathering of the saints and all fo the benefits of worshiping as a congregation. Therefore, we will provide our normal service through Live Stream at 10:00AM with some minor modifications including: a more intimate worship service, a time of prayer which includes requests submitted in advance by email (submit requests to mercyhilloffice@gmail.com), a sermon from Matthew 28:16-20 on the mission of the church, and a closing song and benediction. Again, the goal is to joyfully submit to our governing authorities, protect everyone’s individual physical health, and yet spiritually encourage our congregation in the gospel!

We hope and pray this information is helpful. We are doing the very best we can to make wise decisions and provide helpful options. We are also praying for God’s richest blessings on you and your family!

Christ is All,
Pastor Aaron (On behalf of the Leadership Team)
